Why I Waited 8h for the iPhone 4

On Friday morning I got in line outside my local Apple Store at 5 in the morning. I don’t want to tell you how many hours I waited in line that day, but it was a lot. However, I walked out with an iPhone 4.

I’ve had a lot of people ask me why I did that. I don’t need it. My 3GS was functional, albeit a bit buggy lately. There are the famed antenna issues with the new iPhone (which I can reproduce, by the way, but which don’t cause any problems for me). And there are probably better ways I could have spent that money.

I did it because I wanted to. Because I was passionate about it, and it’s important, I think, to follow your passions. Gadgets and the like are something I do feel passionate about, about how they can make our lives better, easier and richer.

I think it’s important to follow your passions, and not to apologize for them, no matter what they may be. Maybe it’s great food, maybe it’s stamps, maybe it’s base jumping. But the more passionate things you do, the better you’ll feel.

So that’s why I waited in line for the iPhone 4 and what got me out of bed at 4:30 in the morning.

What would get you out of bed at 4:30 in the morning?
