The Setup
A good read on computer setups. Like a good nerd I am constantly thinking about revamping my setup and how better to optimize my setup to maximize productivity.
Though as he says, that could just be cause I’m trying to avoid work.

Work-life balance: Why your boss should care
The Globe has a good summary of trends in work-life balance, as well as some stats that show why employers should care about it.
I like the idea of being able to spend your benefits as you wish; i.e. medical benefits, extra time off, pension, etc. I’d probably take the extra time off myself.
The Globe looks at American Apparel CEO Dov Charney
Say what you will about the guy, but he’s built a huge business in 7 years. Even if it is close to failing. It’s a good read.
The Bygone Bureau: On Editing
The Bygone Bureau talks to three eccentric online news papers about their editing process. The tech geek in me likes the citing of specific programs and tools, while the writing geek in me likes to hear about the process.
Backpacking Matt on life in Bangkok
I still want to go there. This makes me want to go more. But, preferably with a solid enough income I can afford a nice hotel to attend to my introverted and crowd-hating self.
Guide to Buying a Round The World Ticket
I almost want to do this just do it, and not actually stay very long in any of the countries, but just spend two weeks and fly around the world. Stay a day or two in maybe 5 places. My ideal itinerary would go:
- Toronto - Vancouver
- Vancouver - Tokyo
- Tokyo - Sydney
- Sydney - Cairo
- Cairo - Lisbon
- Lisbon - Reykjavik
Maybe throw Brazil in there to see one of my favourite people too. If I had a spare, you know, 7 grand.
- Reykjavik-Toronto
Thawing Thor
My favourite travel company (whose services I hope to one day be able to afford) is traveling to Iceland. Their blog is unique, in that it has fun little blurbs on various spots they go to. Their bit on Iceland is a little generic, but it starts to capture the majesty of that land.
A simplified morning routine
I wish I could figure out how to have my morning be more like Leo’s and less like something out of a zombie movie.
See, as I first wake up, I am the zombie, roaring with frustration, shuffling out of bed, shielding my eyes from the bright light (though I guess that’s more vampire?).
Then, I’m the human in the zombie movie as I check the clock, rushing like mad, making sure I don’t leave anything important behind, dashing out of the house.
Yes, definitely need to figure out how to not do that in the morning.
The Inside Story of the Facebook Movie
I get the feeling a lot will be written about this movie both before and after it comes out. The reviews have been great and it really speaks to tech nerds.
The article is worth a read regardless of your nerdy status. Quick story on how the movie developed.

Some Stuff I’ve Learned About Stuff
I’ve been reading more and more on minimalism lately, and more and more of it is speaking to me. And as a compulsive shopper, I like the idea of buying good things that last, as opposed to the many cheaper and crappy things I tend to buy.
